For tech support I had this website and allowed students to get to know webmaster type functions.
They could change templates and set up a new configuration, download plugins, etc..
Learning and being comfortable with your website’s dashboard is knowledge you need. Just the basics.

Template has Header, Featured Image, 3 Column body, Top Menu and 3 column Footer. An excellent display for a horse training and boarding facility

Template is WordPress Twenty Seventeen with 1 column (your choice 1 or 2),
Top Menu with 2 Column Footer, Header and Featured Image.
Artist
Template is 1 column with top menu and header.
The 1 column shows off the Artist’s works beautifully.

WordPress Twenty Fifteen, 2 columns, side menu, featured image and no real footer but I put the Author’s copyright in the footer via the host server files. Award winning author sells his books on his own site and all the book stores too.
